'Brailee's Chickens' Kim Potter

I want to share a funny, but powerful story with you today. It’s about a little girl and her chickens.
As most of you know, my granddaughter, Brailee is a farm girl through and through. Her dream is to have her own horse that will do everything she wants it to do in horse shows. Other than her horses, she loves her cat and chickens. I have pictures of her carrying around baby chicks when she was barely old enough to walk. It’s just something she loves.
Her mom took her a few months ago and bought her some baby chicks. I don’t remember what they are called but they were the ugliest things I had ever seen. But Brailee loved them. One day, one of Bre’s dogs killed one of her chicks. Brailee was very upset and Bre told her she would replace it.
Weeks went by and it hadn’t yet been replaced. One day, Brailee and I were at Tractor Supply, and they had chicks for sale. Brailee asked me to text her mom and see if she could get a chicken to replace the one killed. At this time, between the two of them they had a couple dozen chicks, which Bre thought was more than enough, so Bre said no. Brailee wasn’t happy.
Brailee said, “Mom said she would replace my chicken, and I am going to have me another chick.”

Brailee has had this thing working in her for many years, if she says it, she believes it and she will have it. I don’t know how she does it, but I have seen this happen for her over and over again – with impossible things. It’s an incredible faith in what she declares.
Well, a couple weeks passed and chicks began to hatch. It was the funniest thing. Brailee would go to gather eggs and there would be a baby chick. One. Then two. Three. They just kept hatching. After about a week, I believe they had more than a dozen.
Bre said, “Oh my word, we are overrun with chicks.” I laughed and said, “you should have bought her the little chick from Tractor Supply.”
A couple weeks ago, Brailee worked at horse camp for a week. When she got back home, chicks were again hatching. I believe she told me she has hatched nine this time and still has one or more to go. That child has her chick – just like she said she would. When I thought about all this yesterday, I laughed out loud. Oh, that we had the faith of a child! A faith that when we say it, we know we will see it, without a doubt.
That girl doesn’t have one chick; her chicks multiplied and continue to multiply. God is so funny! I love the simplicity with which He teaches us – even through our children and grandchildren.
Jesus said, “According to your faith let it be to you.” (Mt 9:29)
For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. (Mk 11:23)
